Underwater cutting and welding. Plugging and sealing.
Underwater Cutting and Welding, Plugging and Sealing Underwater cutting and welding are specialised repair techniques used to carry out maintenance on a vessel’s underwater structure and fittings while the vessel remains afloat. Underwater cutting and welding: Used to remove or repair damaged hull plates, brackets, pipes, fittings, and other underwater components. Welding can be used to restore structural integrity or attach replacement components. Requires qualified commercial divers and specialist equipment. Work must follow approved procedures and applicable class, safety, and welding requirements. Plugging and sealing: Used to temporarily or permanently close openings, pipes, sea chests, valves, or damaged areas. Prevents unwanted water ingress or leakage. Can be used during repairs when replacing or repairing underwater components. Seals must be properly secured and tested to ensure watertight integrity. Main benefits: Allows essential repairs to be completed without dry-docking in suitable circumstances. Minimises vessel downtime. Helps maintain watertight integrity and operational safety. Provides an effective solution for emergency or temporary underwater repairs. In short: Underwater cutting and welding enable structural and component repairs below the waterline, while plugging and sealing provide watertight closure and leakage control during or after underwater repair work.
