Replacement of parts and electrolytic protection.
Replacement of Parts and Electrolytic Protection Replacement of parts involves removing damaged, worn, corroded, or defective components and installing new or refurbished parts to maintain the vessel’s safety and operational reliability. Typical replacement work includes: Hull plates and structural components. Anodes, valves, gratings, and sea-chest components. Propeller, rudder, shaft-line, and other underwater fittings. Damaged or worn mechanical and electrical components. Fasteners, seals, bearings, and other consumable parts. Electrolytic protection is a corrosion-control system that protects underwater metal surfaces from electrochemical corrosion. It commonly uses sacrificial anodes or an impressed-current cathodic protection system. Main purposes: Reduce corrosion of the hull and underwater fittings. Protect propellers, rudders, shafts, and sea chests. Extend the service life of underwater components. Reduce maintenance and repair requirements. Ensure effective corrosion protection in accordance with applicable class and manufacturer requirements. In short: Replacement restores damaged or worn components, while electrolytic protection helps prevent corrosion and extend the life of underwater metal structures and equipment.
